![]() Shaw recovers David’s remains, and with his help, they launch another Engineer spaceship to travel to the Engineers’ homeworld in an attempt to understand why they created humanity and later attempted to destroy it. After a struggle, it thrusts an appendage down the Engineer’s throat, subduing it. The Engineer, who has survived the crash, finds the "lifeboat" and attacks Shaw, who releases the alien offspring in hopes it will attack the Engineer, which it does. Shaw goes to Vickers’s "lifeboat" and finds her alien offspring, now grown to gigantic size, trapped inside the medical bay. The disabled Engineer spaceship crashes onto the planet, killing Vickers. Shaw convinces Janek to stop the Engineer spaceship – he crashes Prometheus into the Engineer ship, while Vickers ejects from Prometheus. The still-active David communicates with Shaw and reveals that the Engineer is going to release the liquid on Earth. Shaw escapes the Engineer spaceship as it is activated by the Engineer. David speaks to the Engineer who responds by decapitating David and killing Weyland and others. Weyland and a team return to the structure and awaken the Engineer. The Prometheus’ captain, Janek, speculates that the structure was part of an Engineer military base that lost control of its biological weapon, the dark liquid. They find superior beings who appear god-like in comparison to humanity, and the Prometheus crew suffer consequences for their pursuit''. A mutated Fifield attacks the hangar bay and kills several crew members before being killed himself. The central theme in Prometheus concerns the eponymous Titan of Greek mythology who defies the gods and gifts humanity with fire, for which he is subjected to eternal punishment.
